Interests

One of my main interests is writing letters to my many penfriends all over the world.  I also write to friends all over Britain.

In the early days, the letters were of course handwritten, but nowadays I use the computer for most of them.  More and more penfriends and friends are now using e-mail.  Some have this facility but still prefer to send their letters via the mail.

Another of my interests is Cross-Stitching.  I have cross-stitched many pictures for myself, as well as many cards for friends, penfriends and relatives for special birthdays, anniversaries and Christmases.  I have also been Card Making for about four years using the methods of rubber stamping, peel offs, embossing, decoupage etc.

I also like to do jigsaw puzzles of 500, 1000, 1500 pieces and have quite a collection at home but seem to have less and less time to do them.

Watching television and doing crossword puzzles also count amongst my interests.

Over the years I have also made various novelty cakes for my sons birthdays, although these are not professional.

In the Autumn I enjoy knitting hats and puppets for the shoes boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  The shoe boxes are delivered to third world countries.  I deliver my knitted items to the warehouse in Melksham. From here, the shoeboxes are checked before being packed on the lorries ready for going abroad.

I like to visit friends and relations whenever I can and also enjoy having visitors. Muriel came to visit in May 2017 and we went by train to Liverpool and then on to Porthmadog.

Our holidays are usually a week or two weeks in a cottage in England. These holidays have been to Yorkshire (2007 and 2014), Derbyshire (2011 and 2017), Shropshire, The Lake District, Devon, The Isle of Wight, Wales, Scotland (2008 and 2018) and Ireland. During the last few years we have had City Breaks to Italy, Rome, Austria, Prague, Berlin, Krakow and Barcelona. Other countries we have visited are France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Malta, Jersey and Norway.

In April 2013 we went on our first dancing holiday, which was in Bournemouth. We went on our second one, this time to Torquay, in February 2014. We returned to Bournemouth again in April 2014. Here are some photos of the Halloween 2014 dance and the 2015 dance at the Paragon. In November 2014 we returned to Torquay for a Turkey & Tinsel dance break. In April 2015 we went to Bournemouth for the third time. We returned to Torquay again in November 2015. We returned to Bournemouth in April 2016 for the fourth time, which we found out would be for the last time as the hotel would soon be pulled down. In June 2016 we went to Lytham St. Annes for the first time and returned to Torquay for a fourth time in November 2016. In 2017 we went on three dance breaks to Llandudno, Lytham St. Annes and Torquay. In 2018 we took our first dance holiday to Southsea which was followed in November by returning to Torquay again. We returned to Llandudno in March 2019 and for the first time to Bideford in June 2019.

I go to the theatre as often as I can, and also to pantomimes.  I enjoy meeting the actors afterwards and have a collection of autographs and also many photos of myself taken with the stars.

I have also been to a few concerts, mainly in the NEC in Birmingham, and also in the BIC in Bournemouth.

An Odeon cinema opened in Trowbridge in late 2013, so I now go regularly to watch films.
